New to the sport of field hockey? Watching the informative video created by a coach in Florida might be helpful. After watching the video, continue reading about how Lower Merion School District kids are encouraged to pursue a future with field hockey.
DEVELOPMENTAL MISSION
One dimension of the Lower Merion Field Hockey Mission is to encourage a sincere passion for our sport and encourage student-athletes to pursue opportunities which they can develop themselves in the areas of: commitment and responsibility to the team; effective communication on and off the pitch; individual technical development; and develop the ability to read, recognize, and move through space at appropriate times on the pitch; when and how to move through space. The program encourages each student-athlete to select the opportunities which provide a culture/climate which is conducive and appropriate for individual growth in order to possibly achieve self-established personal goals.
Participation with Club Field Hockey at the Youth or Academy levels is encouraged. This is the greatest opportunity for trying out the sport for pre-middle school aged kids while being in an atmosphere of knowledgeable coaches. Southeastern Pennsylvania is the national hub of field hockey. Due to our location, there are many field hockey clubs in our area. There are five, specific, clubs which have a history of developing technically sound players who begin at the Youth and Academy levels and continue a playing career at the inter-collegiate, national and international levels. If a Lower Merion field hockey student-athlete aspires to continue a career as a member of an NAIA, Division III, II, I filed hockey program, membership with a club team is the most effective manner to have opportunities which could lead to possibly being a recruited prospective student-athlete at the college level.
